A contraindication is a pre-existing medical condition that could make it inadvisable for a massage treatment to be carried out.
There are three types of contraindications -
Local , Total and Medical .

Total Contraindications
A massage cannot be performed at all with total contraindications.
(Please do not book if you have any of these conditions)
- Acute injuries
- Contagious diseases (including mild cold or flu)
- Fever
- Neuritis
- Recent operations
- Skin diseases
- Under the influence of alcohol or drugs-including pain medication
Local Contraindications
A massage can be performed but not over contraindicated areas.
- Bruising
- Cuts or abrasions
- Inflammation (including arthritis)
- Sunburn
- Undiagnosed bumps or lumps
- Undiagnosed pain
- Varicose veins
Medical Contraindications
A massage can be performed although the client must get their doctor's consent prior to their appointment.
- Any condition being treated by a medical practitioner
- Bell’s palsy
- Cancer
- Cardio-vascular conditions (thrombosis, phlebitis, hypertension)
- Diabetes
- Epilepsy
- Gynecological infections
- Heart problems, Angina, Pacemaker
- High blood pressure
- Nervous or psychotic conditions
- Oedema
- Osteoporosis
- Psoriasis or eczema
